The Chicago Celtic Pipe Band was founded in 1997, by Jim Enright Sr. along with his daughter, sons and a few close friends who had spent many years playing together in local bands. The band was formed to bring Celtic music, celebrating the cultures of Ireland and Scotland, to occasions like weddings, family gatherings, festivals and parades.
From the very beginning, the band has enjoyed a close relationship with Hackney's in Glenview, Illinois, as a generous and supportive sponsor. You can always enjoy our players performing at both locations around St. Patrick's Day. We are also proud to march with the Hackney's family during the Glenview Forth of July Parade every summer.
The band started competing in Grade 4 as a member of the Midwest Pipe Band Association. Through lots of hard work and thanks to some excellent instruction, the band has continued to improve and was eventually promoted to Grade 3. We have earned titles including U.S. Open Champions and Midwest Champion Supreme along with many prizes at competitions through the Midwestern states and Ontario, Canada.
We formed a development group in 2018 to foster developing pipers and drummers and named it the Jim Enright Sr. Memorial Pipe Band in honor of our founder. While parading a performing right along with our Grade 3 members, this group competes at Grade 5.
In 2021, we formed a strategic partnership with the Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band. As the premier competitive pipe band in the region, we benefit from their mentorship while creating a natural avenue to our stronger players who can further their piping and drumming pursuits in Grade 2.
The Chicago Celtic Academy is launching in July 2026 so we can provide professional education to new pipers and drummers as we perpetuate the traditions that have been at the center of our missions since 1997.
